Pilates is a fitness program created by Joseph Pilates in the early 1900’s. This form of exercise promotes greater balance, coordination, healthy breathing, longer leaner muscles and injury prevention. It also increases core strength, stability, control, and flexibility while emphasizing spinal and pelvic alignment.

Why should I take Pilates at IMPACT instead of at my local gym?

A Pilates class at IMPACT is run by a therapist with expertise in proper biomechanics, posture, and treating chronic pain. We incorporate exercise science and rehabilitation principles to emphasize correct alignment and improve flexibility. Classes are offered in small groups of 4-6 to allow for close supervision and modification of exercises to meet each individual’s level and needs.

As a participant in Pilates at IMPACT you will experience many personal benefits such as gaining strength and confidence in the basics of Pilates and core strengthening. You will be eased into strength and conditioning work safely without increasing pain or symptoms. You will strengthen and tone muscles while uniting body and mind. Pilates complements your rehabilitation, cardiovascular, and weight training programs.

Each class is 1 hour long and will consist of learning basic principles of Pilates. As you progress, Pilates becomes more challenging and builds on your knowledge and endurance. Pilates is an exercise that works well for people of all ages. Although the class at IMPACT is geared for people with chronic pain, this class is also a great way to improve anyone’s overall fitness.

Pilates Rehab Options

Our group fitness class is not covered by insurance. But an individual therapy session involving Pilates could be covered by your insurance with a doctor’s order. When you schedule specify you are interested in Pilates Rehab.

Your individual session will include:

  • An evaluation of posture, strengths and weaknesses.
  • Use of Pilates exercises to strengthen and condition core muscles and extremities using good alignment.
  • Learn how to safely perform exercises.
