This class is taught by Ann Richter, MS, OTR/L. She is an Occupational Therapist that is a certified instructor in Tai Chi for Arthritis, Diabetes, and Fall Prevention.
Class will begin with a warm-up activity or Tai Chi Ruler (a wooden dowel held between the palms used to enhance Tai Chi movements), and is followed by practice of Shibashi along with a discussion of its benefits.
All you need at is to wear comfortable, loose clothing and comfortable, supportive shoes.
Why Practice Qigong Tai Chi?
Qigong is an easy to learn set of movements that gives you more energy if practiced regularly. This exercise has no need for special equipment and it requires very little space to practice. Qigong is suitable for any age or physical condition and can be done standing, sitting, or lying down to accommodate a health condition.
Shibashi is also known as 18 form Tai Chi Qigong and is a set of 18 exercises linked by flowing and slow motion movements. This is the type of Qigong that will be practiced in class. The routine is loosely based on the Yang form of Tai Chi Chuan combined with the traditional breathing and movement exercises of Qigong. The Shibashi style was created in 1982 and was developed to offer the health benefits of Tai Chi in a way that could be learned in a relatively short time. It is practiced in China and worldwide by millions of people.
The series of 18 movements are designed to enhance internal energy by coordinating gentle movements with breathing and concentration. As practice progresses, movement becomes more effortless and flowing, allowing for deep relaxation to occur.
