Amy Pennaz graduated in 2008 from the College of St. Catherine with a Doctorate in Physical Therapy. After graduation, she worked in Elkton, Maryland, for a year before returning to the Twin Cities to work in orthopedics. She has training in Postural Restoration, Myofascial Release, and CranioSacral Therapy.
For 20 years during and after college, Amy has danced professionally mostly in ballet, but also modern dance and continues to share her love of dance by teaching students of all ages. As a professional ballet dancer, her study of movement and breathing compliments her work in Physical Therapy. She continues to pursue the art of ballet technique, which helps her to understand and treat dancers, athletes as well as patients wanting to improve their posture, activity, and function. She also has studied Pilates intensively through her dance training, in both mat and reformer exercises.
She has been a member of the International Association of Dance Medicine since graduating with a DPT and has attended their international conferences in Ohio, Maryland, England, and the Netherlands. She also completed the Principles of Dance Medicine course through the Harkness Center for Dance Injuries in New York.
She also holds a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering and has two beautiful children who she raises with her husband from Brazil. She is fluent in Portuguese and has had a number of opportunities to teach dance and fitness classes in Brazil prior to moving with her husband to Minnesota.
